Our Favorite Projects of 2023
As we gear up for the 2024 season of new clients and projects, we’re taking a moment to reflect on our favorite projects from the past year. 2023 was filled to the brim, but there were four standout projects that we put our final stamp on and are featuring as Our Favorite Projects of 2023. From an early 1900s farmhouse to a one-of-a-kind carriage house rooted in Asheville’s history, our year was drenched in interiors with narrative.
The Grove Park Carriage House
When our clients approached us with their vision for this historic carriage house, it was love at first sight. Perched on a mountainside in Grove Park, this quaint home oozed history and narrative but lacked a flow and functionality that our clients needed. An open concept floor plan was ideal for the modest space, so we focused on a living area anchored by a modern wood stove that flowed into a ‘Plain English’ inspired eat-in kitchen. With the help of Adams & Adams Construction, this home was gutted to the studs and given a new lease on life. We are thrilled with the outcome and honored that this project was recognized as winner of the 2023 Griffin Award for Rehabilitation.
The North Asheville Kitchen Remodel
A dated North Asheville kitchen was in need of a modern update for a professional chef and his young family. To best utilize the space we opted for an eat-in kitchen, complete with a custom banquette and marble pedestal table to gather around for breakfast. We reconstructed the previous bulky built-ins into a Parisian bistro inspired whiskey bar with floor to ceiling subway tile and washed the brick fireplace with a pop of color. Custom cabinets, antique brass hardware, and a textured scallop backsplash in the kitchen make it worthy of any chef.
The Wildflower Cabin
This eclectic mountainside cabin boasts some of the best views of the Smoky Mountains and now serves as a creative retreat for musicians, families, and other vacationing guests. We leaned into the original 70s feel of the space with eccentric patterns, bold colors, and vintage inspired furniture. With a full renovation and complete outfitting for Airbnb guests, our designers reimagined this space to evoke creativity and inspire visitors.
The Fairview Vintage Farmhouse
Situated on a rolling hill in Swannanoa, NC this 1910 farmhouse received a major reconstruction into a spacious family vacation rental. Our team redesigned the flow of the home to better accommodate guests and grounded the space with handpicked antiques and vintage farmhouse inspired decor. As we often do at Hearth + Home, we preserved as much of the raw character and detail of the home as possible including the original mantels and antique pine accents, while still elevating the space.
